The Toronto Police made a surprise raid on the Toronto Humane Society yesterday, arresting the President and four other key leading officials of the organization. «
[…] The accusations were levelled earlier this year, and the investigation into the charges of animal cruelty had been ongoing since June. The investigation culminated in a surprise raid made on the Toronto Humane Society’s (THS) River Street shelter on Thursday, with the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) taking over the shelter. Four animals were put down on Thursday evening, due to the amount of distress they were in, and approximately 1,000 other animals are under the care of the OSPCA. This morning the Toronto Humane Society’s President, Tim Trow, told the Toronto Star
“There is no substance to the charges. I’ve never been unkind to an animal in my life. My life is geared towards trying to help animals. The Toronto Humane Society is a wonderful place.”
Trow and the other four officials were all slapped with two counts each of with cruelty to animals, excepting the Chief Veterinarian, who only faces one charge of animal cruelty. […]

HEY FY!TORONTO FOLLOWERS!
weetzie-bat here, and I come asking a little bit of a favour.
My highschool, School of Liberal Arts (SOLA), is in a little bit of a situation. Of the 90 students currently enrolled, almost half of them are graduating in June. This is going to leave the school with a huge need of more students!
So, if you’re looking for a new highschool in Toronto, please make sure to check out this one!
Thank you!
King Tut exhibit at the AGO
November 24th 2009 to April 18th 2010
More than 100 artifacts of the pharaohs, many solid gold, and 2,000 years of ancient Egyptian history go on display Nov. 24, 2009 at the Art Gallery of Ontario. The AGO housed King Tut’s treasures 30 years ago, but the new exhibit is more than twice the size and includes a three-metre statue of Tut. (via lovecansaveus)

Yesterday early morning, a deer was signalled around Toronto’s Union Station. From there, it travelled North and settled in a small garden of an apartment building, from where it was ultimately removed by police.
It is hardly a secret that Toronto is one of the greenest metropolises on our planet, and rumour has it that -next to Paris- Toronto is the metropolis with the most wildlife. Toronto inhabitants can enjoy a wide range of parks, ravines and nature preserves with lots of flora and fauna, unequalled anywhere. After all, in how many cities can you take the subway to see the salmon run, to take but one example?
(blaaargh: lets not get too smug, it’s not like we have monkeys or parrots)
